National Navigation Award

The National Navigation Award Scheme is a progressive personal performance programme developing navigation skills and helping participants to enjoy the outdoors safely and confidently. The National Navigation Award offers tuition through St John Cymru Wales as an accredited provider.

Navigation skills open the door to a new world and the great outdoors can be explored freely and safely when you know:

  • Where you are
  • Where you are going
  • How you will get there

These skills allow you to plan your walks, cycle rides or journeys in order to discover new places, get the best views, enjoy wildlife or simply reach a destination.

The Outdoor Discovery Awards encourage the exploration of local areas using simple street and park maps. Navigator Awards cover the full range of skills needed for navigation in all terrain types. Each strand of award has three levels, and individuals may start out by beginning the One Star Outdoor Discovery Award, progressing to the Three Stars.

Each level is taught as a self-contained unit, and completion of a level is validated to a national standard recognised by a badge and certificate.
